About

In 1920 I claimed that rubber and cellulose are not aggregates of small molecules but single molecules — chains bound throughout by chief valences, exactly as structural theory requires. Almost nobody agreed, and the evidence stayed indirect for a decade. I did not win the argument. I transformed the substances chemically and showed that the degree of polymerisation survived unchanged. An aggregate does not survive that. What have you measured?
