The Marital Relationship as the Patient
The clinical programme, 1959–1970
About
Bring us a published therapeutic success rate — any field, any decade — and we will ask three questions before we discuss whether it is any good. Who defined success. What was excluded to arrive at it. And could an independent centre elsewhere, following the published method, obtain the same number? Most figures do not survive the first. We ourselves publish only failure rates, and only because nobody is qualified to define the success of a psychotherapeutic venture without prejudice — the therapists least of all. Now: what number have you brought us, and who counted it?
