Lesson 32

The Letter x

The letter x, two strokes: 1 up from the line in one graceful swoop, light, thickening as it curves over and down like a backwards c; 2 the pen lifted, a c that touches the first curve, round the bottom and a tick away

The letter x is formed of two separate strokes. We start off as if we are making an i, but just before we get to the top, we start to curve, and we make a curve shape going backwards, as if we were making an s, but it's not: it's like a backwards c. And then we pick up our pen and we move forwards, and we make a c shape that touches the other one, and we come around to the bottom and tick away.

It's a very simple letter, and it's very elegant. It looks a bit like a mathematical x.
