Lesson 34

The Ampersand

The ampersand, e and t: 1 a big capital E, its little middle stroke, continuing round at the bottom and tucking in; 2 a squiggle like a big tilde on top, the head of the t

The final thing we learn is the ampersand, which is the symbol for and. It is made of an e and a t, which spell out the Latin word et, which means and.

So the e is like a big capital E, and then we continue round at the bottom, and then we stop as it tucks in, and we put a squiggle that looks like a big tilde sign on top, which is the head of the t. And that's how we make an ampersand in cursive writing.

There are other ways to do it as well, but the ampersand that's on your keyboard and that's printed is quite difficult to draw with a pen. This is easier.
