Greek text (mathematical ethics):τὸ τέλος ἡδονή, οὐχ ἁπλῶς ἀλλὰ κατὰ λογισμόν. ὁ μὴ λογιζόμενος οὐδέποτε εὐδαιμονεῖ, κἂν πάσας ἡδονὰς λαμβάνῃ.

ὁ λογισμός· ἡδονὴ παροῦσα - πόνος ἑπόμενος = κέρδος εἰ κέρδος < 0, φεῦγε τὴν ἡδονήν εἰ κέρδος > 0, δέχου μετὰ μέτρου

οὕτως ὁ σοφὸς οὐ πᾶσαν ἡδονὴν διώκει ἀλλὰ τὴν συμφέρουσαν πρὸς τὸ τέλος...

Translation: “The goal is pleasure, not simply but according to calculation. One not calculating never flourishes, even taking all pleasures.

The calculation: Present pleasure - following pain = profit If profit < 0, flee the pleasure If profit > 0, accept with measure

Thus the wise doesn’t pursue every pleasure but the one advantageous to the goal...”
